October 2019: PIANZ is pleased to announce that it has taken up membership of the New Zealand Food Safety Science Research Centre (NZFSSRC) – and commenced a major study of the human foodborne illness Campylobacter and its modes of entry onto New Zealand poultry farms.
Established in 2016, the Palmerston North-based NZFSSRC is a collaboration of seven New Zealand research organisations in private industry and government offering an internationally credible science base for decision-making in public health and the food industry. The NZFSSRC’s work focuses on better ways of detecting hazards in the food production chain and reducing the risk of foodborne illness to consumers.
The first findings from the study, which involves a six-figure investment by PIANZ and Government assistance in funding of the NZFSSRC, are expected in October-November 2020.
