Industry Guidelines on the use of Antibiotics in Poultry

Antibiotics are only used by our members to treat sick birds or prevent the spread of infection and can only be used on prescription from a vet.

Our members use a spectrum of antibiotics that is generally not used for the treatment of human illnesses and there are strictly enforced stand down periods to ensure that birds sent for processing no longer have traces of antibiotics in their systems.

The antibiotics we use are not growth promoters but do ensure more healthy flocks.

PIANZ has set an industry agreed guideline on use of Antibiotics in Poultry.
