REPORT: "ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE: IMPLICATIONS FOR THE FOOD INDUSTRY"

Eliminating antibiotics from food animal production may have little positive effect on resistant bacteria that could potentially threaten human health, according to the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). In fact, when such actions have been taken in foreign countries, they have resulted in some cases in more antibiotic use and more resistant bacteria, according to an IFT Expert Report on 'Antimicrobial Resistance: Implications for the Food System', released in July 2006.
